The wilderness and the dry land shall rejoice and blossom; like the crocus it shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice with joy and singing. ~Isaiah 35:1-2

Hi Meta,

Your description of the flag ceremony brought back some recent memories. Mary’s brother, Fred, died a couple of weeks ago and his family arranged for the Marines to provide a grave-side ceremony that included a flag folding, rifle salute, and taps. It was quite moving and I too welled up. We are losing members of the “greatest generation” far too quickly.

On another point, Newsweek magazine has a feature called “My Turn” where regular folks have a page to write about whatever. In this week’s issue (May 28), a woman describes having to cope with her father’s death. She goes into much detail about what she did NOT want to hear people say in order to comfort her. You may what to check it out.
